DIY Mean Girls Tote Bag

It’s Mean Girls Day! In case you’re wondering why today of all days is Mean Girls day, it’s because of this scene. As a total Mean Girls fan myself, I couldn’t let this day pass by without doing a fun DIY project! It’s so fetch. Before we begin, I want to encourage you to see what I did last year, because even with a 5 day old baby, I had to celebrate! How cute was teeny tiny nose-picking Hailey?! I can’t handle it.

I created not one, but FOUR different Mean Girls quotes that you can put on a bag! This project is perfect because you can carry these bags all year long to show off your love for Mean Girls. You can do pretty much any quote you want to, but I picked four of the more iconic ones. And I made a template so it’s super easy for you to do it, too!

  1. You have two options for the template, for a total of 4 quotes. To see them, go to this link or this link for your cut files.

  2. Load your vinyl and cut the quote(s) for your tote. For a more in-depth post on how to cut iron-on vinyl, go to this post for the full directions. Don’t forget to mirror them!

  3. Weed your vinyl to remove the excess. Do this carefully so you don’t end up ruining any of your letters.

  4. Center the decal, then iron it onto your bag. Make sure you wait for it to cool completely before trying to peel it!

Now, go shop til you drop with your new totes! Or, give them as a gift to a fellow Mean Girls lover with a bottle of Rosé inside and a pack of popcorn. Pop in a copy of the DVD if you don’t think they have it! Also, be sure to go watch Mean Girls on this most joyous of holidays. It’s the grool thing to do.

Barbie Shoes Tote Bag

So lately, I’ve been talking a lot about being comfy in the warmer weather. One of the biggest parts of that is wearing comfortable shoes. However, sometimes you really want to wear that cute-but-uncomfortable pair. Or, maybe you just got a brand spankin’ new pair of shoes and you just can’t wait to wear them for the first time. Before you know it, you’ve got a blister situation happening and you’re wishing you had an extra pair of shoes to save you. Don’t worry- I got you covered! With this Barbie Shoe Tote, you’ll be walking on Easy Street in no time. As a Barbie collector, fan, and self-titled Barbie Girl, I could not WAIT to create a Barbie Doll themed DIY. I think I've got this one in the bag ;)

This tote is as easy to make as you want it to be. If you’re looking for a no-sew project, just print the design onto transfer paper and iron it on your bag. If you want to give your bag a fun look, sew some new straps on it. I also think this would be great on a drawstring shoe bag too, or even a t-shirt!

Psssst. If you want this to be an easy no-sew project, skip to step 4.

1. Cut the straps off your tote bag.

2. Use your cut straps to measure out your new ribbon, and add a little bit extra.

3. Following the little bit of leftovers from the old straps, sew your new straps onto your tote bag.

Can we talk about how excited I am that I remember how to sew?! I took a free sewing class 2-3 years ago at Mood Fabrics, where we made a tote bag. I had to consult my sewing manual a little, but I was giddy over actually remembering what I needed to do haha. Anyway, moving on...

4. Carefully cut out your Barbie shoes iron-on transfer paper. Get as close to the edges of the lettering as you can.

5. Run a lint roller over your bag to remove any stray hairs or lint. Otherwise, they'll get permanently embedded under your iron-on transfer.

6. Place your iron-on transfer paper onto your tote bag where you would like it to go. I decided to have mine go diagonally across the center. It felt very 90's this way!

7. Iron the transfer paper onto your tote bag according to the directions of your iron-on transfers. Let cool completely before peeling.

And there you have it! An awesome tote bag for toting around your real-life Barbie shoes. It's perfect for the 90s Barbie girl in you. It's also great for kids and Barbie collectors, if you wanted to use it as a doll tote! It is a Barbie bag, after all. Or, use it to hold doll clothes and accessories.
